Diet Caffeine Free Dr Pepper

Sunday, December 30, 2007 at 5:13 pm | Filed under: Musings

Shame on all of you who knew about this concoction and didn’t share!

I’m drinking my first Diet Caffeine Free Dr Pepper and have to say it’s heavenly for a pregnant gal like me. I’ve tried to stomach the Coke version (we call this Coke free Coke in our little family) and honestly feel that it’s horribly vile! I was pleasantly surprised after drinking my first sip of this Dr P.

Another fave is A&W Diet Root Beer…which is naturally caffeine free. Plus, Fresca…which is naturally diet and caffeine free. None are substitutes for the nectar of the gods, Diet Coke, but they have been life savers while I’ve been taking greater care with what I put in my body these last 9-months.

Baby Popp is ALMOST here

This is a recent picture that Shana took of me (and the baby) on Thanksgiving. It’s almost time!

Nursery Complete

Well…it’s finally finished enough for pictures…

Joe posted pictures of the nursery so I’m copying the link in case you visit here and haven’t seen his blog…

We’re very happy with the results. We wanted something that wasn’t traditional pastel colors and something that was cheerful. Since the doctors can’t give you a 100% guarantee that this little one will be a girl, we went gender neutral too. OK, so the posters are more geared towards a girl but those are easily replaced if needed.

Baby Tummy As of November 30th we’ll be at the 36 week mark. I’m still working but am looking into taking time off beginning December 10th. That gives me 2-weeks to get my desk organized and cleaned up for those that will be taking over my duties while I’m gone.

I’ll try to keep you all updated but if I don’t get a chance to speak to all of you, have a wonderful holiday season. It’s a special one for us this year.

Happy Birthday!

More Showering

Joe and I headed up to San Jose the weekend of October 20th for Baby Shower #2. My sister, Sister-In-Law, and one of my best friends hosted a beautiful day of food, fun games, finger foods (including lemon bars for dessert - a fave! and brie cheese that I could eat because it was pasteurized), sparkling drinks and toile!

For those of you that don’t know what toile is, here is a link to the wiki with an explanation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toile I love toile (even if my husband doesn’t allow it in the house) so it was extra special to have this as the theme of the shower. Even the favors were toile themed with little toile boxes filled with truffles (also something I love). There are pictures on flickr if you’d like to see pics of each shower.

What a gift to have people in my life that know me so well! Shana and Lee also gave me a shower in September that was garden themed with beautiful flowers, cheerful colors (like the baby’s room), handmade table cloths by my Step-Mom-in-Law, fun rubber duckies floating in the punch, and hand-drawn decorations by my sister-in-law. Instead of a cake, they opted for the cutest mini cupcakes on tiered cake plates. Oh so cute!

IMG_4379-Edit.jpg This past weekend was my third and final shower…one at my boss’s house. She is British/Irish in heritage and threw me a traditional tea! The food was amazing with a berry trifle and traditional scones with jam and clotted cream. It brought me right back to London!

All of these showers had one thing in common. They were elegant but not stuffy! I loved each and every one of them and we are so grateful to have been showered with all of the things new parents need in preparation for a little one. Now…I have to finish all of the thank you notes! Two showers in two weekends…I’m behind!

Another Update

Thursday, October 18, 2007 at 11:20 am | Filed under: Events, Family, Travel

Sorry that I haven’t been as good about updating my blog and keeping you all in the loop about what’s been going on with us. I’ve been consumed with baby and work, but there’s no excuse!

We’re at the 6.5 month mark with our little girl’s development. I spent the first half of the pregnancy wanting her to swim up and stop using my bladder as a chair. Now I’m using the last half begging her to swim down. It feels like she’s trying to crawl up into my rib cage which makes it difficult to catch my breath. What can I say, she’s already stubborn like her mom. The doctor appointments are being scheduled every other week now and they’ve begun measuring my belly. We’re right on target. The results of the Gestational Diabetes test came back negative, which is a blessing. However, I am slightly anemic. Joe took me to Target last night to get some iron supplements and I’ve been attempting to up the amount of iron rich foods in my diet. I just wish that green leafy veggies (the kind I used to love) didn’t turn my stomach at the thought of eating them now!

This weekend we’re headed up to my home town for our second baby shower. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone and celebrating this with all of them. There will be a few people there that I haven’t seen in so long. My sister, sis-in-law, and close friend Kim have been working so hard on this event. They’ve been good at keeping me in the dark about the details so it will be fun to see the day unfold. All three of them are great about adding those little things that make a day like that personal and special. We’ll be staying at the Hayes Mansion while there, which is fun. It’s one of those things that you’d never do when you lived there but now that we are visiting, we’ll have the chance. Joe’s mom and Aunt are able to make the trek to be there too!

Next weekend will be my third and final shower. My boss is throwing me a tea party shower with all of the girls from work (most of them anyway) attending. She invited my mom too, who has a ticket to fly down for the weekend. What a neat idea and so much fun to have a proper British tea. She is half Irish and half British so we know we’ll be experiencing the real deal.

Other than that, we’re trying to prepare the house and nursery for the baby. My sister and brother-in-law brought us their crib which is up now in the baby’s room. I put the mobile on it over the weekend. As soon as we get the room done, I’ll take some pictures for you all to see…or better yet, come visit once she’s born to see her and the room.

Update

We are at the midway point with this little one growing inside of me. This morning we had another prenatal appointment and were able to hear the heartbeat. Good and strong! At the appointment we went over the results of the ultrasound. Everything is as good as it can possibly be. They were able to account for all of the major body parts, she is the perfect size, and no abnormalities. I’ve gained a total of 9-lbs so far, which they seem to feel is right on target for me.

We haven’t decided on names yet. It’s so hard with our last name and we want something unique but not too unique. Don’t want to make those school years any more difficult for her than they usually are!

Our Summer has been quite busy with travel and concerts. This little girl has seen more live music than most kids ten times her age! OK, so she hasn’t seen as much as heard but this little one will not lack in music exposure. Thanks to Joe’s friend, Cary, we saw Fountains of Wayne and Squeeze at the Greek this week…for free! What an amazing show. We all commented on how we thought that Squeeze may have been better than they used to be…they rocked the house!

We rubbed elbows with fellow audience members like Jason Falkner, Aimee Mann, Michael Penn, and Harry Shearer. You know you’re seeing a good live show when artists you respect are there to see it too.
