I am so excited! This picture won First Honorable Mention in the weekly Theme Competition Group (Week 27), subject “Mother Nature” on flickr.
There are so many talented people on there…I never thought I was in the running but would post my entries anyway. Great bunch of people in this group too. They are always so nice and supportive. The point isn’t to win…it’s just great to see everyone’s take on the theme for the week. It was really nice to be singled out though. Here is a link to the entries for this particular week: Mother Nature (Week 27)
Many of you know that photography has been a hobby of mine since I was little. I remember getting my first discman camera and the feeling of freedom I had knowing that I could take pictures of whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted! Then I was able to take classes in high school and college. It feels good to be getting back into this!
Joe and I are both really pleased with flickr. If you get a chance, check them out and consider using them. It’s a fantastic online community with some amazing talent on there.

Wow - congratulations. Your picture is excellent. I like the way you captured the eggs and the little spiders. It’s a beautiful picture!

Wed Oct 12, 2005 at 10:08 amNice picture! I found your page off of Rich’s Windbaggery site. Seeing that you’re into photography I thought I’d share a couple of sites that have been very good and helpful to me. First, clicking my name will take you to my photo-blog site run by “My Expressions.” It’s very simple to update and has a very clean interface. The other photo site I frequent and have learned a TON from is photosig. If you’re interested you can see my portfolio .
Wed Oct 12, 2005 at 10:35 amOops, I messed up the link. Clicking on the period after the word “portfolio” will take you there.
Wed Oct 12, 2005 at 10:40 amFantastic images Joel. You are very talented…is this how you make your living or is it more of a hobby? You should check out flickr. I bet you’d enjoy it. There are two different accounts that you can get. One is free and limits the amount you can load onto the site. The other is a “pro” account. Not only will you get ideas and inspiration from the pictures you see, but there are “groups” dedicated to all sorts of categories including some technical topics. For example, Joe and I recently purchased a Canon 20D and both are in a group on flickr dedicated to people with this particular camera. We discuss technique and hardware. Some people are amatures and some professional. It’s a great forum.
Wed Oct 12, 2005 at 10:54 amIt’s my hobby, though my wife might call it my obsession. I prefer the word “passion.” : )
Wed Oct 12, 2005 at 11:04 amThanks for looking! And if you’re really interested in getting feedback on your own photos Photosig can’t be beat. It’s an awesome site.
I’ll take a look…thanks!
Wed Oct 12, 2005 at 11:11 amI’ve come back to your page several times today. And each time I’ve noticed more and more in this picture. It really is excellent.
Wed Oct 12, 2005 at 4:30 pmWell done Monique!!!! Like you, the photo is quite cool.
Wed Oct 12, 2005 at 6:24 pmFirst, the spider photo is a very happy product (definition 5a). Well done. Second, Cool–a digital SLR! If I had an extra $1,000 I would love to throw down for one . . . anything that does bracketing would be cool. If I could find a point-n-shoot with bracketing, my life would be complete.
Wed Oct 12, 2005 at 11:09 pmBesides liking the picture you took, I loved the title for your blog. Very fitting. Where did you take the picture?
Thu Oct 13, 2005 at 11:48 pmThanks guys! Shannon, the picture was taken at my work. We have a very large warehouse and this spider’s web was weaved in one of the windows between the building and the warehouse. Thankfully…this is not close to my desk!
