Depeche Mode in November!
There’s a funny story with my ticket purchasing experience for the Depeche Mode concert this Fall. I pre-ordered the new album on iTunes and so was given a password for the Presale on Ticketmaster.
I had blocked out time on my calendar here at work to remind me when to purchase the tickets…yeah, like I really needed the reminder! Anyway, when I walked into the office I heard that our internet and phones were out. In fact, a good portion of Irvine, CA didn’t have phone and internet. I went to my Tuesday morning meetings like usual and came back to my desk just in time to purchase the tickets and realized that we didn’t have internet back even though the phones were working. I freaked!
So I did what any one would do… I called my hubby on his mobile phone to see if he could logon for me. He pushed my call straight to voicemail…which he usually doesn’t do unless he’s in a meeting. So, like any rabid fan, I called him again. He put me to voicemail again. At this point I was hyperventilating. It was already 10:05am and the presale started at 10…this was an emergency!!! So I text messaged him and asked if he was in a meeting. He called me back and bless his heart, went through the whole ticketmaster ordeal while I was on the phone listening. He got the tickets…but I swear I have a few more grays because of the experience.
The tickets were expensive and many DM fans have different theories as to why they’re so much more. I remember buying concert tickets for $35. What are your thoughts? Joe about had a heart attack when he saw the price…and gave me all kinds of grief. I can’t blame him but please…it’s DM and I’m really excited about the new album. So I’m fairly certain we’ll be eating in more regularly and bringing sac lunches to work. It’s worth it though! I’m bringing my friend Rebecca as a birthday gift. I wasn’t the only one who turned 30 this year!
What does a 30-year-old wear to a DM concert these days?
I’ve been going to a few concerts and I like try to look as out of place as possible. I wear plaid shirts and sandals (basically what I wear everywhere). I get some funny looks from the teeny boopers. Makes my day!
Thu Sep 29, 2005 at 7:53 pmCongrats on getting the tix - I’m going to see U2 in November and feel the same way, screw the price, it’s U-freakin-2!
I had no idea about the phone/ internet outage Tuesday - must not have reached my section of Irvine.
Oh, and the answer to your question is… black.
Thu Sep 29, 2005 at 10:27 pmAh…black it is! That is one thing in my closet that I have a ton of! So things haven’t changed that much, huh?
The U2 concert should be nothing less than amazing. I’ve heard such good things although I’ve never made it to a concert. Gotta love the irish men!
I like the idea of plaid, Gordon, but I’m not sure about the sandals. Better to wear combat boots so people don’t crush my toes. There will be some dancing to be had!
Fri Sep 30, 2005 at 8:32 amWhen tickets were $35 the minimum wage was about $4.25/hour. CA min. wage is now $6.75, so if the tix were more than $55 each, ticket prices have outpaced min. wage increases.
Get a buzz at home before the show & save on beer at the arena!
Fri Sep 30, 2005 at 11:25 amMy Goodness Olt - what a logical suggestion, but I disagree! I say - martinis before the show. One great thing about getting older is the ability (money!) to enjoy the finer things in life - skip the budweiser! Have a great time!
Fri Sep 30, 2005 at 12:30 pmSo wear black and drink up before you go…but make sure they’re martinis. What would I do without all of you? :p
Fri Sep 30, 2005 at 1:56 pmShana, I can assure you that money is not a concomitant of age, but of career choices. All the same, my ability to enjoy what I consider the finer things in life has increased with age. My career choice, however, tells me that if I started drinking martinis I’d have to take out a loan!
Fri Sep 30, 2005 at 11:50 pmHa-ha. Touche’ Olt!
Sat Oct 1, 2005 at 4:27 pmI’ll be seeing “Dragon Tales” in November. So the martini idea is one that i’ll be stealing. The last concert I saw was Macy Gray and Seal. She was way worse than I thought she’d be, but Seal was WAY better so I suppose I came out even.
