A Few Reviews

Last weekend was the first one in a long time where Joe and I didn’t have something planned every minute of the day. It was a nice change! We ended up having time to watch a few of the movies we had ordered through Netflix.

Joe wanted to see “I, Robot” because he’d heard good things. While I found this movie to be entertaining I thought that it was highly predictable. We were yelling out things before they happened. The subject matter and SciFi storyline had great potential…but I feel that they made a mistake by making it into an “action” flic. The effects were good and Will Smith looks awfully good in his skivies. I’d say this movie is rentable. Stay tuned for my Netflix rating in the new Netflix Activity section that Joe set up for me in the Right toolbar.

Now on to the second flic…

I recently caught an episode of Inside the Actor’s Studio with Cameron Diaz. They mentioned the film Gangs of New York (2002), directed by Martin Scorsese. Now, I feel that I should tell you that I really, really wanted to like this film. Everything about it should have equalled a like with me, but I just didn’t.

First of all…this is a flim about Irish history…Irish history in the United States. That’s a +1 for subject matter. Martin Scorsese directed it…plus. It stars the yummy Liam Neeson….BIG plus! It stars Daniel Day Lewis….another plus. So, what went wrong? I honestly don’t know.

I hated the soundtrack. The music didn’t seem to go with the film…and not in a “Moulin Rouge” or “Romeo + Juliet” kind of way. It just didn’t go. The film was way too long. The script was poorly written. Dare I say, it was cheesy? Maybe I had too high an expectation for the film and so was let down by its mediocrity. The only redeeming quality was Liam Neeson’s performance…but alas, he was only in the film for the first fifteen minutes or so. This film received rave reviews. Am I alone in thinking this film was crap?
