Fallon, Law, and Simpson…Oh My!
I have Saturday Night Live as a “season pass” on our Tivo and was pleased to see that they did a Best of Jimmy Fallon episode last night. SNL just isn’t quite the same without him. One of my favorites is the skit he did with Justin Timberlake where Jimmy was Andy Gibb and Justin was Robin. Not only was the skit funny but they do a little laughing because they were having such a good time. There’s always a little bit of laughing in the Jimmy Fallon skits.
Other faves of his include his Leatherman character, the mirror scene with Jagger of the Rolling Stones, the Paris Hilton bit on the Weekend Update, and the Grease inspired finale on his last show.
We’ll miss you Jimmy.
Next week will be hosted by the yummy Jude Law and the musical guest will be Ashley Simpson, who has been quoted saying her music is punk inspired…yeah, right! Like there could be anything punk about Ashley Simpson.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
but she got caught lip syncing on that episode, and tried to blame her band for playing the wrong song yeah right
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:02 pmshe probably doesnt even really sing that song
she probably does sing it, but the stuido cotors it so much that her real voice would never compare.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:04 pmYah, I guessed that she totally lip-synched even the first time through. She sang the first line, which sounded awful and horribly off-key and then everything “all of a sudden” sounded perfect. I had a good laugh at her expense tonight.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:05 pmWhat a fake!!!!!!!!!
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:05 pmi noticed that too. her voice wa horrible at the begining of the song, and then it suddenly got better. and i thought i was just maybe getting used to it, or that she had started singing better. funny ha
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:07 pmit just shows what music has been reduced to.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:07 pmAnother Milli / Vanilli!!! I probably misspelled them but who cares after her singing!
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:07 pmi wonder if this isnt true for all entertainment? the actors were maiking fun of themselves during a bunch of skits
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:10 pmhmmmm. i think someone’s career just ended.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:12 pmBad lipsychnching the first song. Then, when they came out the second time we found out that the band wasn’t even plugged in, and the only one who was playing was the drummer. Sad to see a career vanish in one fell swoop…
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:12 pmI agree, this will end her career.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:15 pmFinally the hoax exposed!
yeah everybody in entertainment is fony. nothing is real, everything is scipted. who pays for all this. we do consumers of mass media and the warez they hak at us, making us think we really need everything we own
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:15 pmWhat a hoe down!!! LMAO!!!!
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:15 pmDid you notice the lame bear clips they ran to fill in the time? That made it even more embarassing to watch.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:18 pmwhat ever happened to real artists that really sing…
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:19 pmWhat is happening to the music industry…
Its like pro wrestling now.
we are in the matrix. nothing is what it seam. everything is fake.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:20 pmat least wrestling doesn’t attempt to cover up the choriography like musicians cover up lip syncing
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:20 pmSpeaking of hoe down, that’s definitely one Ho Down.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:21 pmThat was my point exactly!!! LMAO
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:22 pmThe funny thing is that most wrestling fans know that it is fake.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:24 pmAshley’s fans just ate it hard!
do you people exchange ideas online regularly?
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:24 pmmy first time!
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:24 pmdo you exchange ideas online regularly?
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:24 pmWhat made you think the drummer had a mic that was turned on anywhere near the drums?
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:25 pmActually, I fell asleep and missed the first 12 seconds of the 20-second “performance” while I my boyfriend yelled to look at the TV. So now we’re looking for the video to see what I missed.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:26 pmBye now.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:27 pmI wonder if any of the ban will get fired or quit.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:28 pmthey will deny, deny, deny
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:28 pmCome on people it was the band!! Really!
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:29 pmNot necessarily miced, but the only one legitimately playing. It sounded like he lead with the right song, then changed tempo when the wrong track had started.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:29 pmthat was great. the perfect end to a career that never should have begun. hear hear, ashlee.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:30 pmyeah, right
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:30 pmI wonder if this will effect her sister’s career.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:30 pmShe (Jessica) isn’t smart enough to realize what happened
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:31 pmpoop poop poop
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:31 pmWhat a fake, I aggree, horrible lip synching! I always said she couldnt sing, and now its proven! Thank God another idiot is off the charts!
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:31 pmWhat are you guys talking about?
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:32 pmI can’t wait t osee the MTV comments tomorrow.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:32 pmhaha!
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:32 pmpoop on her and ally
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:32 pmIt’s a shame that only a few real bands are in existance today. Tonights debacle on SNL goes to prove the manufactured artist of 2004. The band was right on - you could tell they actually cued the band and they started to actually play towards the end. So sad that she would blame them -
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:32 pmso you think the music industry is going to lynch her? they are the ones promoting this kind of thing.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:33 pmIs there really chicken in the sea?
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:33 pmI bet her record label guys are shitting in their pants right now.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:34 pmand the way she just left the band hangin!
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:34 pmshe was super embarrased. you can tell she is smart and she knows this is total bs
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:35 pmwhat a joke!
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:35 pmshe should have stuck with 7th Heaven
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:35 pmIf she was smart she wouldn’t have faked the song in the first place.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:36 pmwhy wouldnt they have there band play? do they not sound good enough during a live performance?
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:36 pmwhat? she is not smart…obviously!
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:36 pmor she would be doing her own music that she actually writes and sings.
smart, yet untalented, scary combination.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:37 pmanyone know where to get a clip of that act?
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:37 pmshe is a pop media puppet anyway…
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:37 pma dime a dozen.
I am sure it is everywhere….you can find it!
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:38 pmI’ve never seen this happen in all my years of watching SNL - wow.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:39 pmI am sure it is everywhere….you can find it!
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:39 pmlike a gun for hire, who takes no pleasure in the work. she does it because they are good at it.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:40 pmDo you think they will air the episode the same way also on the west coast? What a disaster also for the credibility of SNL.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:40 pmwher would you find something like that? somebofy would have to record and download it somwwhere
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:41 pmThe censorship that is part of this website is the kind of shit that produces Ashley Simpson’s.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:41 pmMalicious content…its called reality!
troll
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:42 pmI wonder if someone told her to blame the band. And will this be on an upcoming episode of the MTV Ashley Simpson show?
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:43 pmtroll? what?
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:43 pmtroll: inflamatory unrelated commentator.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:44 pmMTV is jus t as fake as she is.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:44 pmso do you find legitamate telent and appreciate it? how do you tell the fake from the real?
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:45 pmSomeone had to tell her to blame the band. They also had to probably beg her to go back out on stage for the end-of-show bit. Did the band come out, too? Everyone–the entire cast, Jude Law–looked really uncomfortable and awkward. It had to be nut!
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:45 pmhey troll commentor…here is a comment for you.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:46 pmYOu probably are a nAshley fan…and think it was the band’s mistake
get lost troll
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:47 pmwow, that was really bad.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:47 pmget lost troll…
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:48 pmwow good one…original like your hero.
Okay, I did not see this, but the wife did. Is this basically what happened?…The sound track began to play the FIRST song performed, and she had no idea what to do? Then she walked off stage? Is that generally the idea?
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:49 pmtha comment was actually from the troll himslef
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:49 pmIs monigue here?
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:49 pmasdfs
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:49 pmsomeone get a link to a replay of that
i can’t find one
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:50 pmyes , exactly
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:50 pmI have east and west coast on my sattelite. I’ll record it in an hour if it hasn’t been modified.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:51 pmlater troll
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:52 pmYes, the first track began playing when they went out to perform the second song. The band basically had to go with it, and Ashley’s voice was coming out of the speakers, but her mic was in her hand at her side. She threw her hands up and walked off about 10 seconds into it.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:52 pmWill I be able to hyperlink here I record it?
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:53 pmIn that case, I cannot fathom how she could, with a straight face, blame the band? How long do they think that story is going to last (cough) wardrobe malfunction (cough)?
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:54 pmBTW, this is not the troll.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:54 pmsame here, saw the live feed and now have Tivo set up to record the west coast feed but they will probably cut it out… schmucks
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:54 pmyeah im really curious to see if they cut it out of the california edition, they still do need a second song. there is always two songs.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:56 pmyou think the crowd actually stayed around to liesten to a third song after that?
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:57 pmHow could they cut it out? They could barely fill the extra 3 or 4 minutes that they were left with.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:57 pmI’m sure they have more Bear City on tape
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 10:59 pmHere are some sites with the disaster:
http://www.siscom.net/~petreman/lipsync.avi
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 11:02 pmhttp://www.reyox.net/lipsync.avi
the bear city was lame but actually quite clever in portraying how animal like our society is. expecially the clip where there was the abusive manager, and his boss sees it and fires him cause noone is higher than the top dog.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 11:03 pmIt was an absolute train wreck. I was embarrassed for the poor girl, but you get up and try to be something you’re not and get caught…well you get what you asked for
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 11:08 pmGod, I just listened to it, and I feel so bad for them. What a mess! g’nite.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 11:14 pmIs lipsync.avi just audio or is there supposed to be video?
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 11:14 pmYes, there should be video on that -
try this link:
http://www.collegehumor.com/news/ashlee_snl.wmv
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 11:16 pmI just think it was in poor taste by SNL and Ashley Simpson. They should start saying “Saturday Night Live - Featuring Pre-Recorded Musical Guest ….”. And to blame her lack of live talent on the bad and just walk off rather than even attempt to just sing it herself no matter how bad it would have been was very unprofessional. Wonder how may newspapers, internet sites, and mags this will hit. Should be fun to watch:)
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 11:19 pmOkay, sorry, stupid question, but in this clip, is ALL that sound tracked? As in, the guys left on stage playing guitar were basically finger-syncing for 45 seconds?
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 11:20 pmOkay, sorry, stupid question, but in this clip, is ALL that sound tracked? As in, the guys left on stage playing guitar were basically finger-syncing for 45 seconds?
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 11:21 pmAh that one worked! Thanks! Heh. Seeing it a second time it appears she recognized immediately it was wrong and her mic didn’t seem to be on at all… looked like she tapped it when it was at her side and it wasn’t audible.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 11:23 pmlooks to me like the band wasn’t live either…for a while they aren’t doing anything and you still hear music playing. then when they realized somethign was screwed up they started finger-synching.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 11:24 pmFrom what I could tell from the live show, the band’s levels were brought up so you could actually hear them playing. Usually (in my experience) when you sync, you do play along (I’m a drummer, so you usually hear a click track and your heads are dampered, but guitarists will play the song with either the levels completely down or turned of completely.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 11:25 pmYea they stood their finger-synching for what seemed like an eternity when I watched it live. It’s hard to make out in that .wmv but the guitarist with the pink guiter had a hilarious “omg we’re hosed” look on his face the whole time.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 11:25 pmyeah that was funny. he was like trying to decide whether to stop or continue. it looks like he chose to continue.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 11:28 pmthe video from collegehumor.com is gone…
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 11:32 pmSo, granted, in ten minutes, they had to find some kind of story and stick to it, but blaming the band in the modern world of Internet and Tivo? I’m almost waiting for them to parody themselves next week for that bull.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 11:32 pmnm it’s back
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 11:32 pmIf the band had actually started playing the wrong song, couldn’t they have just started again playing the right one? Or she could have just sung whatever song they were playing. Blaming the band won’t fly, especially when you can tell they were also synching.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 11:34 pmI doubt SNL staff told her to blame the band, I can’t imagine they really would want to get involved in that. But I wouldn’t be surprised if one of her managers or record label guys told her to.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 11:35 pmWell the band was “playing” the same song that they “played” just 20 minutes before in the previous segment.
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 11:36 pmWhy was the band pretending nothing was happening?
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 11:40 pmThey couldn’t just run off stage. Watching it actually happening I just kept thinking OH JUST STOP!!! It’s too painful to watch. Watching it again doesn’t do justice to the feeling of watching it happening LIVE!!! OMG
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 11:42 pmThey were professional - the show must go on. She was the unpro, by walking off the stage and leaving them there. Such an immature brat. The band did what they should’ve, kept performing for “their” audience!
Sat Oct 23, 2004 at 11:43 pm.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 12:10 amJust wanted to chime in from the West Coast. They did indeed play the unedited show. It was unbelievable to see LIVE.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 12:20 amInteresting. That’s probably the wisest decision they’ve made so far, seeing as how there’s no way they can bury the event at this point.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 12:23 amyup. Actually the smartest thing she AND SNL could have done was for her to just come right out after the break, apologize and offer to resing it live. This will have far reaching implications not only on her, but SNL and the music entertainment industry in general, or maybe we’ll all just forget it in a week like we do everything else and buy her next album when it comes out
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 12:30 amShe may be lip-synching, but from what I understand, her family is good and she is a virger still, so she is technically NOT a hoe….oh well, it wasnt like a secret. I bet madonna does that shit
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 12:53 amanyone who dances around while doing lots of stuff that makes you huff and puff can NOT sing while doing it.
if you watch real people sing. they dont dance around. they keep their back straight. so that they *can* sing.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 12:58 amthat was pretty funny, you have to admit. what a lame excuse, blame it on the poor band members, just turn around and freaking tell your band. jeesh
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 12:59 amha ha i just saw that happened live and googled to see if anyone had posted it. i gotta see that again. she just blamed her band. i didnt believe she was singing the first time. it was obvious.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 1:04 amSNL used to feature musical acts that mattered. When I was very young I remember seeing The Talking Heads, DEVO and others make their TV debut…
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 1:05 amnoe the show is in kahoots with the crappy record industry and they put teeny bopper lip psync acts on every week… lame.
I hope they’ll learn a leason.
By the way… shouldn’t she know the words to ALL of her songs?
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 1:06 amBy the way… shouldn’t she know the words to ALL of her songs?
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 1:08 amARE YOU PEOPLE STUPID? FIRST OF ALL, IT MUST BE LIPSYNCED ON TV UNLESS YOU GET THE RECORD LABEL’S PRIOIR APPROVAL. SECOND, SHE WOULDNT BE ALLOWED TO BLAME THE SNL PROCUDERS (WHO ARE ULTIMATELY AT FAULT). THIRD, MISTAKES HAPPEN AND SHE’S YOUNG, SO SHE PORBABLY DIDN’T KNOW HOW ELSE TO REACT!
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 1:10 amLook who just chimed in.. Kurt effing Loder.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 1:13 amdude you are the one who’s stupid.
record companies approval to perform live(!?!).. get a clue.
Hah, I caught that awkward jumping around and wondered what the hell she was doing. I guess I missed the beginning where it all screwed up. The looks on the guitar players’ faces was awesome.
Oh, and did she blame the band during the show? If so, I missed that as well.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 1:14 amhere’s what happened:
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 1:17 amthe band was playing to a click track with her pre recorded vocals. something went wrong, she froze up and walked away. and theen blamed the band when the real problem is, she can’t sing and has no business in the entertainment industry.
But she blamed them during the show?
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 1:19 amshe blamed them right after jude law said thanks and good night, it was shameless.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 1:19 amLooks like SNL screwed the pooch on this one
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 1:20 ami bet shes a milli vanilli, i doubt thats even her voice on the music.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 1:20 amCobain is rolling over in his grave. I guess phonies still strive in Rock and Roll because stupid people buy this crap. The phony BS rockers like Poison and Warrant were accepted because of this fake lifestyle that everyone wanted to live. Hot chicks and beer and big hair. Cobain put a nail in the coffin of Glam rock and hopefully there will be another savoir? of Rock and roll.
If you are having trouble figureing out whats uncontrived versus complete tripe just turn on Mtv or MuchMusic or VH-1. Music was never about music videos. Bands that strive to get their image on the TV screen are marketed to you.
It pisses me off that the only ones with talent are the ones to blame here. Shame on you Ashley Simpson. You forgot what Kurt Cobain did for rock.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 1:21 amShe said “I’m really sorry, the band started playing the wrong song…”
Right.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 1:21 amAshley while Dazed and confused couldn’t remember if it was still rehearsal or Live, Hence, the “FREEZE GAME”
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 1:25 amI played the “FREEZE” game… I was at home in my moms living room. Too bad Ashley wasn’t. Is bad press better than no press at all? “HELP IS ON THE WAY ASHLEY” Your TOO hot to worry about THIS!
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 1:27 amAwesome. There’ll now be a whole media thing about artists lip-synching live. Thanks, Ashlee.
Oh, and someone mentioned she should write her own songs and blah blah. One must realize that little girls her work for daddy have no creative control.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 1:28 amI noticed the band wasn’t on stage with her at the end of the show. She probably told them not to be there so they wouldn’t punch her when she told the audience the BIG LIE.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 1:29 amIt figures - the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Her dad is a big fake, too.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 1:30 amshe’s done. her career is dead like the yankees.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 1:33 amthat was hot……
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 1:40 amI guess that cute innocent look Ashley gives after each performance…. Like she didn’t play basketball in the house and break the lamp, (Bobbie from the Brady Bunch)…, Won’t get her out of this one. It was my fault, no it was mine, no really I’m at fault! Only difference is Bobbie fessed up.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 1:41 amWhat’s even funnier is SNL will be goofing on her next week.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 1:42 amI’d love it if they did. It wouldn’t be like them not to, seeing as how they seem to have a corner on the market of bringing embarrassed stars back to public acceptance and are now the embarrassed stars.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 2:01 amSo, why wasn’t she in any of the three skits she was scheduled for? BECAUSE SHE SUCKS!
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 2:02 amI am on the West Coast and Tivo’d the show. I just downloaded and watched the college website East Coast broadcast link and SnL definately EDITED the West coast broadcast audio. It did not have her vocal part playing while her mic was on her side. Guess they wanted to do some damage control.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 2:58 amThe SNL crew screwed up … They started the wrong voice track. But leaving the stage was the most stupid thing I have ever seen on a live show. She’s lucky to have a good band …
Altough I think the band should’ve stopped and then start the right song with live vocals …
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 3:52 amGee maybe next week they can have another bad rap act like they did every other week last year… wait that was like the last 5 years. The variety of musical acts has absolutely sucked, but I always thought people played live. What a joke.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 4:48 amThe band probably couldn’t stop “playing”, because then the fact that everything was recorded would have been glaringly obvious. Ashlee f**$ed up in stellar fashion…kind of like the Yankees. Maybe there’s something in the water???
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 6:39 amCan’t wait to see the spoof on next week’s show.
She is NOT smart! She is a spoiled ditz just like her sister. A smart person could think up a better excuse than blaming it on her bandmates, or might even admit to it. Jude Law knew she was lip syncing, he was honestly confused when she said it was the band’s fault. Ashley deserves every piece of shit she gets from the media. NOTE TO SLUGGER: Music videos are an art as well, they can be used for artistic purposes. Look at “Losing my Religion” and “Jeremy”.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 6:43 amlol that segment was funny. i live in hawaii and they didn’t edit it all. you see her come on stage and the first song started again.. you can hear her siging.. only problem she wasn’t singing, then she started to do the ho-down dance and exited stage left…lol during the closing of snl she came back out to blame the band.. it made it onto Fox and Friends.. her career is over for sure..
two simpsons:
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 7:08 amone can’t sing and one thinks mahi mahi (hawaiian for dolphin fish) is a dolphin.. both are idiots, i feel sorry for their kids
i always told my g/f that ashley can’t sing when i have to sit and watch her gay show on mtv with my g/f.. and now i have my proof.. there is a god
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 7:15 ama sad and sorry state that the music industry has become. It is not just Ashey, We’ve been suspicious of Madonna for years, Britney is so obvious whenever she is on tv. The only time I ever saw her really sing live was on that superbowl a few years ago and she was HORRIBLE and way off key.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 7:18 amIt is always suspicious whenever performers are doing intricate dance steps and their voice never wavers. I would much rather see a band or a solo act while performing live than have them acting like they are singing as their voices are played from recordings. The public must demand live or nothing from these so called muscians where it counts, at the cash register.
I saw Ashley’s “meltdown” on this morning’s edition of
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 7:39 am“Fox and Friends” (Fox News Channel). I wasn’t surprised, at all. This is one of the reasons I stopped watching SNL, in
the first place: The first cast of SNL was called “The Not
Ready For Prime-Time Players.” THIS now applies to MOST
musical acts on that show. In the “old days,” you had to
“pay your dues” and “hone your act” before you were booked on a show with the stature of SNL. Not anymore,
sadly. Hopefully, in a couple of days, or so, Ashley will just
be the answer to a trivia question.
The fact is, she’s a ‘made’ star. She did not begin her career by doing performaces, etc, and her inexperiance showed big time. Her first singing performance for an audience was documented on her T.V. show, for petes’ sake! It is common knowledge to ANYONE with ANY type of stage experiance that the show must go on…ad-lip, do anything.. she could have pretended to sing, and then, if they stopped the song, be like..”just kidding, guys..wanted to make sure you were still awake” But then again her mic wasn’t on, so she couldn’t say anything..HA HA
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 7:51 amYou’re right. How long are we going to tolerate these lip sync’d acts being fed to us???????? Even those who actually sing at their own concerts continue to fake-it on television. Enough is enough!!!!! We must stop supporting these fakes.
Look at Britney, she has become nothing more than a cartoon and a poor role model as well. We don’t need people like her smoking and partying after pretending to be against those things. Think of so many young girls who emulate her and, believe me that it is true, begin to smoke BECAUSE Britney does.
I am rooting for Ashley to overcome this. She should go on the major talk shows and come clean and apologize, admit the truth and try to move on. At least she seems to lead a clean life that maybe the young girls, for better or worse, might have as an example to follow.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 7:51 amWould Averil have done this?????
She’d rather suck live with strep throat than fake it
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 7:54 amShe would have kicked the collective asses of her band and the snl producers for f-king up and then done it live…..without apology!
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 8:04 amCNN.COM has the whole video clip and her comments at the end of the show. i really think she can sing. she did some bits on her mtv show that were “unpluged ” and her singing without music after a recording session. after the Dr. visit segment, when she sang to test her voice. there are clips of her in clubs and very unplugged and she sounds good, not the same as studio quaility. her range is better than her sister jessica. she can project louder. most of these singers do sound like crap if they have to sing without a mic to amplify their voices. some of my personal favorites like sheryl crow, stevie nicks, and even whitney houston can sound off key when they start signing without musical accompaniment. the truth will come out. she will have to prove herself a hundred times over. she will be on every talk show for months. uuuuuuhhhhhhh.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 8:10 amWhat a disaster I knew something was up after the first song,I can’t believe they screwed up worse on the second. This might hurt both simpson chicks.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 8:27 amlast season i was watching snl and the musical group, ( i don’t remember some newer rap something, a few guys and a girl ) well the music portion didn’t sound right, a little slow. the singing was ok. even john mayer sounded funny and i’ve seen him in concert. he even did some off the set songs at this small concert. maybe snl is making them do this. i don’t know, but i do remember that other group not sounding right last season.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 8:32 amJust another example of Major Label non-music! Support the real (and often unknown) real music on the Indie Labels at websites like epitonic.com and emusic.com.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 8:38 amSounding funny is a good thing - sounding like the cd usually means that it IS the cd…
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 8:40 amshe should go on a world tour with William Hung …she bangs she bangs
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 8:43 amAt least William Hung sings live, badly, but honest and live…
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 8:46 amSNL did NOT mess this up. It was AS’s own AUDIO PRODUCERS and ENGINEERS. SNL hands over the “board” - where the engineers and producers and ‘roadies’ set the levels for all the instruments, vox, mics and the mix of the vocals and instruments. And THEY set and cue the vocal tracks to lipsynch to.
Ashlee should have said in her apology, my audio engineered cued the wrong song.
Watch the guitarist on the left - (yellow-brown guitar) - he turns up his volume when he realizes something is wrong and starts playing along with the drummer. In a few seconds, the rest of the band joins in as well. And like all pop rock, each song is pretty much interchangeable so her first song could probably be sung to their other songs as well - ie Jack Johnson.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 8:52 amIt’s like “bands” today can only write songs in the key of B so that they can interchange chords and lyrics and call it a new song.
Gone are the days of Led Zeppelin and Elvis when they were all too stoned to sing, they just made stuff up and made it sound as good as they could for the moment. Only Axl Rose would walk off stage.
Thanks ClearChannel and The Evil Empire for ruining music for us.

From Lucky Magazine interview:
LM: What are your takes on lip-synching?
AS: I’m totally against it and offended by it. I’m going out to let my real talent show, not to just stand there and dance around. Personally, I’d never lip-synch. It’s just not me.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 8:59 amnothing on CNN.COM????
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 11:01 amSATURDAY NIGHT(kinda) LIVE. She could have at least made up some song as the band played and make it seemed like the whole thing was planned. I thought the mic went bad and she needed a good one, like Melissa Etheridge during Concert for New York. Etheridge was a professional and made a problem work. Simpson? Go back to high school.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 11:25 amCNN.com has it - you just have to subscribe. Don’t worry, it’s all on FOX News every half-hour.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 11:27 amTo everyone saying that Ashley Simpson’s performance on SNL is the end of career, that’s just stupid. Not that I like Simpson, I could care less if her career did end, but it’s stupid to think that an insignificant fuck up on SNL would spell the end of her career.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 11:52 amWow thats the saddest thing i have ever seen. That jig she did made the whole thing 100*s worse. And the look on her bands faces were priceless.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 12:17 pmMusic is not about image. Kurt Cobain’s efforts are lost on lameass bands like the Ataris, Good Charlotte(makeup, all image, milk the sound.) Ashley Simpson is not “punk inspired”. She is greed inspired. I never said video’s weren’t an Art. I said they were a marketing tool. This crap is all about fashion. It makes me sick to my stomach. She lied and made her band out to be the bad guys. She blatantly lied to everyone. If you can’t turn off MTV and still enjoy music then there is something seriously wrong with your idea of music.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 3:30 pmHer dad and all his kind make me sick to my stomach. Blame them, not the girls that are whored out to pad daddy’s wallet.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 5:24 pmdoes anyone have a site to watch the clip on?
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 6:54 pmThe sick part is that this probably won’t even affect her career. Obviously for whatever reason people listen to her because because of her image. If anybody ever watched her tv show or heard her music they can not possibly claim she is talented. Although this should affect her career it wont bc she still has her image. Sadly what would be a career ender would be if she became fat. People just dont listen to her for her music.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 7:01 pmthe song wasn’t too bad with just the band playing
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 7:27 pmEverybody acts as if she’s the only performer on Saturday Night Live who’s ever lip-synced! You can’t single her out as this lying deceitful person… do you really believe that it was “her” idea to lip-sync? Is anything actually her idea? She’s a manufactured personality and is told how and what to do in every aspect of her career I’m sure. She was the one who got caught though. I feel sorry for her.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 10:12 pmKaraokeKarl is right. The West Coast edition was edited! I taped the show and watched it tonight. We couldn’t tell that “her words” were coming out of speakers while she danced her jig trying to decide what to do next. Hearing that would have made it all the more powerful and disgusting. I’ve never listened to her before I saw her on SNL (which I’ve been watching since the 70’s when it started), but now I’ll notice her and remember what a phony she is. Her sister is no prize either with her nasaly, holier-than-thou approach to entertainment. They have no idea what talent is. If the band are real musicians, they’ll come out all right. But if you run with wolves or lay with dogs, or something like that, you get what you deserve.
Sun Oct 24, 2004 at 10:54 pmhttp://www.ebaumsworld.com/ashlee-snl.html
-Link to a much faster server, and also with an amusing edit of her dancing.
I’ve known all along, for the past 5 years, now, that music would just get more and more formulaic, until “someone comes along and changes it all.” Well, whoever you are, now would be a good time, wouldn’t you say? I would rather watch Sinead “Uncle Fester” O’Connor tear up the picture of the pope again, then have to watch things like this happen to music. As a genuine music composer, I take great offense that people who actually think about, and write a structured song are in the minority now, while teenage girls get to go on stage and . . .er, “sing” the corny songs that some middle-aged executive tells her to sing, while she
uses as much “sex appeal” as possible. Listen, if they look good, and can dance, why even bother with any singing what-so-ever? Why not just become a stripper in Las Vegas, get addicted to coke (the powder, not the drink), nearly O.D, and then become a born again christian, saving yourself, and all of us, the trouble?
. . .Sorry about that rant, folks! It was from another thread; My browser loaded the wrong website!
ZING!
Mon Oct 25, 2004 at 2:58 amAshley Simpson is a no talent hack that mocks rock n roll by lipsyncing. Its all Crap!
Mon Oct 25, 2004 at 8:42 amWe just saw Ashlee Simpson and her family at JFK. Her band was checking stuff in and she and her mom were standing over to the side! She was very pouty!
Mon Oct 25, 2004 at 9:11 amWas there a camera crew with Ashley at the airport? That would just be golden if this is part of her show…the rise and fall of an American pseudo-idol!!!
Mon Oct 25, 2004 at 11:21 amThe media will just sweep this under the carpet and youll never hear about it again. Ashlee simpson will get to go on cheating while the rest of us have to do real work to make money.
