Today I registered to walk
Today I registered to walk in the 5k Walk of the Koman Orange County Race For the Cure here in Southern California. Last year I was asked to walk with a friend of mine who’s mother survived breast cancer. This year I’m doing it again.
Just like last year, it takes place at Fashion Island in Newport Beach. It’s an early one…the race starts at 7:32 am but it’s for Breast Cancer awareness so at least I’m draggin’ my butt out of bed for a good cause!
If you can join me for the walk, please do! You can register online at www.occure.com for the Orange County Women’s 5k on Sunday, September 26th for $27. I know that it says “Women’s” but there are always men there too. Let me know if you’ll be joining me and we can all meet here and carpool together. So far, it’ll be me and Rebecca…but the more the merrier!
Of course, if you’d like to pledge me, click on the image to the left and you’ll be taken to my personal pledge page where you can enter any amount. My goal is to raise $300 which is the price of 3 mammograms, so every little bit helps!
If you get a chance, read the story on the race site about Susan G. Komen. It’s a very touching illustration of what happens when Breast Cancer isn’t caught early or if it’s not treated thoroughly. One in seven women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. That’s seven too many in my opinion. I’m sure that every one us can say that we’ve been touched by Cancer in our lives…let’s do what we can to aid in finding a cure.
Thanks for your support!

You can also think of our cousin, Amy, who has struggled with breast cancer recently. (Her mom is our mothers’ cousin) We are hearing that she’s in remission - Thank God - but she was very young when she was diagnosed (I believe she hadn’t turned 30 yet) with no immediate family history… please, check yourselves regularly!

Thu Aug 12, 2004 at 5:38 pmHaving first hand knowledge of cancer, I will support this cause to the hilt. I donated on behalf of our best friends in Mississippi last year but this seems most appropriate. I would accept any and all prayers (if you have the desire).

Thu Aug 12, 2004 at 10:15 pmI’m doing the portland Komen Race! Yay us!
I’ve been lucky in that I don’t know anyone firsthand who’s had breast cancer, though there’ve been other kinds in my family.
I’ll be running (well, probably walking briskly, but it’s not called the Komen Brisk Walk For The Cure With Stops Along The Way For Coffee And Window Shopping, otherwise I’d've been doing this for years) in honor of my dear friend’s cousin, who lives in Studio City and just finished her second round of chemo…
Rock on Moni!
