IPO
Last night we went with some friends to IPO (International Pop Overthrow) at Club Lingerie on Sunset in LA. For $8 we got to see 8 bands play as well as take home a 3-disc CD of music from the 180 artists playing the entire IPO (now until August).
We went to see a fantastic band, Owsley, play but I must say that the night turned me on to two bands that I’m interested to hear more of. P Hux was amazing…a really tight band. I also enjoyed Feel who is featured on the American Pie soundtrack under their previous name, Bachelor Number One. The lead singer looked like a cross-breed of Prince and Bob Dylan. He wore his sunglasses the entire set.
The one band that I didn’t enjoy was Maple Mars…but Dan disagreed with the rest of us so much that he actually bought their CD. Isn’t that just like Dan?
Check out these bands if you haven’t already.

That was huge fun. Right up until Monique laughed at the homeless person that asked us for money.
Mon Jul 19, 2004 at 2:12 amOK, in my defense, I was laughing because when she she said she was “looking for a hero,” not one of us said a thing. You could hear the crickets for at least 2-minutes. If you’ll remember, I tried to explain myself. Unfortunately, I tend to laugh when I’m uncomfortable…I always have.
I didn’t mean to be insensitive, but I’m sure that I’ve secured my place in hell anyway.
Mon Jul 19, 2004 at 9:02 amThe three moments are inseparably classic:
“I’m looking for a hero”
Dead silence from a van full of five people for at least 5 seconds.
Nervous laugh.
I was kicking myself that I hadn’t pressed the auto-close button on that sliding van door sooner.
