Me Update

It’s been a hell of a week for me. I mean, honestly, enough with the challenges God! I had the scare of my life with a Metrolink (Southern California passenger train) accident. This happened to fall on the morning that Joe had decided to take the train, for the first time, into Hollywood for work.

My mom was the one who broke the news of the accident to me. (My parents are ALWAYS watching CNN for some reason…I think that they don’t want to loose touch with the world now that they’re retired.) I rushed to the television to learn more. The fire department had set up a triage center to assess the injuries. I looked for Joe among the people strewn along the tarps. Funny (in a weird sort of way), I had just called him…5 or 10 minutes after the accident took place, on his mobile phone, and left a message. He ended up calling me back while walking from the subway to the office. He was fine. Unfortunately, there were husbands and wives and children that weren’t as lucky as Joe and I were. Two people died and hundreds were injured. It was quite a tragedy.

Now…that done and over with, my truck died on me on the way to an interview yesterday. There was white smoke from the engine and the truck just up and died. I was somewhat grateful that I was at a light on a hill. There was only one guy in back of me so I pushed the button for my hazards, he went around me. So, I threw it into reverse and pumped the clutch until I was safely in the right lane. I was able to back up to the side of the road (since I was, of course, in the furthest lane).

To make a long story short…we almost bought a new vehicle because of the amount of money that we need to sink into it to fix the damage. $420 for a new radiator, oil change, and a thermostad (whatever the hell that is). After that was done, we found out that there was more damage further in. So, we’re shelling out another $1000 to have the engine taken apart to replace the head gasket (whatever the hell that is). Plus…the registration is due…so we’ll need to also get it smogged and pay the fee on top of that.

We decided that we would do the repairs and not purchase a new vehicle. It’s just cheaper for us right now. All I can say is thank goodness for credit cards and AAA.

I always say that things happen for a reason…that you may not know what the reason is at the time, but it will all work itself out and make sense in the end. I’m having a hard time with this one. Why is it that when it rains, it poors? I mean, why did this have to happen while I’m still looking for a job and we’re on one income? Ah well…C’est la vie. (Oh mom, I hope I spelled that correctly!?)
